Choosing artwork for my walls.

Sorry it's been a few weeks, life got very busy and I didn't have anytime to blog which was a shame but its ok! I'm back I think things have calmed down a little now my birthday is over for another year.

But this week, Adele my better half asked if I could write a post on artwork so yes here it is!

Choosing art work for your home is incredibly challenging, to say the least. If you're like me and you cant decide what on earth you want to on your walls, you're not alone!

I'm so unbelivable indecisive that I still have some very bare walls desperate for art work, but alas my flat is now up for sale. Oh I didn't mention that did I!

Yes, well the time has come to upscale. Especially now that Adele my better half has moved in, both of us clawing for more rooms and some kind of garden area. I'm sure youll find it on RightMove or Zoopla somewhere!

Back to this weeks topic though, for me I really like interesting artwork or artwork from bands/musicians or artists I like. I'm big on music I play several instruments and Im obsessed with music everywhere so naturally having music related artwork around me is perfect!

When choosing artwork for you though you should aim for artwork that makes you feel good, embodies exactly who you are and inspires you everyday.

Vinyls

If you're a vinyl collector like me, vinyls have a stunning look to them and the artwork is quite often absolutely stunning. Not long after I moved into my flat I researched wall hanging vinyls, but I really didn't want to be taking the frame off the wall each time I wanted to listen to the record. I did some research and found some frames from amazon that allowed you to pull the plastic front forward and take the record out without removing it from the wall.

I actually 4 of these above my bed, they look stunning and are easily interchangeable. HIGHLY recommend. This is just of the ways you could add beautiful artwork to your walls.

Vinyl frames that make changing your artwork unbelivably simple.

Example of how you swap the vinyls over, simply pull the frame from the top and it releases the hinge.

Gallery Walls

What about though, if you want normal artwork? How do you choose from the vast amounts of artworks out there?

It was something I have ALWAYS struggling with so I don't claim to be an expert by any means. However, I did get pointed to some very useful websites, I'll list these later on.

If you're the type of person that aspires to have a gallery wall in their home then heres a few ideas for you!

  1. Pick a large central piece - this helps create a central point of focus.

  2. Choose a colour in the artwork that works well in contrast to the room style.

  3. Theme each artwork with each other, this could be a particular colour, art style or an interest of yours. In my case my theme could be music.

It's literally as simple as that, but don't forget to experiment with styles. If you really wanted to experiment before buying you could take screenshots from the websites and put them all together on a document or print them out. This way you can experiment with the style, placement, sizing and colours.

Artwork is such a lovely feature to a wall, it creates talking points and directs your eye line.

Large Artwork

Personally, I love large oversized artwork. I bought a large New York Skyline for my living room and I loved it ever since. I originally had done a similar idea in my old bedroom, I found a cheap New York wallpaper that created a large skyline over the entire wall. It looked stunning!

Full size new york mural wallpaper print.
Unfortunately this is the only picture I have of the mural wall I put up.

Large artwork not only has the oppurtunity to make a space feel taller but it can also be the finishing piece to a 'zone' of your room. Adding the definition, or colour that makes a house a home.

Artwork Shelving

This may sound odd but actually standing up artwork on a picture shelf can really look stunning. Obviously we've seen you grandparents family photos of you a kid looking awful, but this is about styling the frames to match/overlap and stand together as one united look.

Ikea actually sell great looking and inexspensive picture shelves that will elevate any forgotten wall, or more commonly a picture shelf over a bed just look great. Found here: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/mosslanda-picture-ledge-white-90292103/

Where to buy or start looking.

Artwork is all down to personal choice and how it can match to you and your style, it's a way to express yourself through other peoples work, if you've got a dead wall, bare area or an unhomely space think about what artwork could make it pop and create a new area to be admired!

If you're looking for some very cool and different art styles I've got a few websites to help you.

Have all sorts of styles, design options, frames. EVERYTHING.

The quirky to beautiful. Highly recommend the artwork available here.

More on the typography, beauty style of artwork. TheGalleryWall.co.uk has some truly amazing artwork, just abit more on the dark side but if that works for you and your space they are the place to go.

Have artwork that aren't just generic artwork made by god knows who but actual artwork made by artists and if you like theyre style you can focus solely on their work. The art style caters for many styles and looks.

photowall as you might've guessed by the title create beautiful custom sized wall prints and wallpaper. Theres really not many I don't like on this site and Ill definitely be buying from them in the future.

I hope this weeks post has helped you with some ideas about what to do with your artwork!
