Storage and space saving ideas.

Updated: Feb 26, 2023

This post was recommended by a friend, they (like myself!) have cupboards that end up with stuff upon stuff piled up, that all seems great until you need something at the back and it takes 20 minutes just to get to it.

I thought I'd use this post, to post a few products that I think would add more organisation and storage to your cupboards.

I always imagine having a really organised cupboard, especially when I'm throwing things in the back so they don't fall out before I've shut the door!

Am I the only one who gets stuck and loses a good half an hour on organisational videos...?

I need to go out more.

Moving on! I see so many flaws with my basic kitchen, mainly the undersink cupboard and the corner cupboard... of doom!

Here are a few ideas that could clean up your cupboard nice and easily!

1.Spice racks.

Alright, it may seem stupid but hear me out. Joseph Joseph have a genius way of almost hiding your spices. This draw simply hangs on to your existing shelves and means you can hide away your spices and clear out those shelves with ease!

2.Sliding Corner Cupboards.

This is something I would kill have to in my corner cupboard... of doom. It's just an absolute abyss of forgotten appliances and plastic take out boxes. Having the ability to slide everything out without physically climbing inside the cupboard is what dreams are made of. I should still.. get out more...

This particular product is actually retrofit, but unfortunately has a hefty price tag.

3.Stick on broom and mop clips.

Does anybody else find these two just being hoofed into a corner? Endlessly taking up space or do you, like us, have a small apartment where a broom or a mop simply has no real space to fit?

Hanging them up on the wall especially with these stick up hangers, are the best and simplest way to store them and take up the least space. These can be found here.

4.Phone charging shelves.

Do you struggle with space on your bedside table? Have a small space that needs a place for your phone/alarm clock to sit? Well installing a small shelf with a wireless charging pad on it may be the solution you need!

Especially if you have a sonos ikea bookshelf speaker, ikea make a brilliant looking charger and speaker shelf. Images below from the ikea website.

5.Pendant Bedside Light.

Following with the idea of lack of space, I saw this idea on Interior Design Masters a few years ago. The idea of buying a pendant light and wiring up a long, LONG cable attached to the ceiling and then dangled down to create a height adjustable bedside light.

6.Built in toothbrush charger.

Only made for certain brands of toothbrush, the built in toothbrush charger is a great way to save space in your bathroom. Lets face it, how often do they actually get used? So....How does it work? Well simply remove your existing shaver socket (PLEASE turn off the power OR have a qualified electrician do this for you!) and wire in the toothbrush charger in its place!

7.Monitor mounts.

Shown here are two different types of monitor mounts.

In my opinion monitor mounts are a must for any desk for work from home or gaming set up! It takes the space used by the monitor stand and gives you ample more space to store your things! Or if like a good friend of mine you're a minimalist it can give you a better sense of space and freedom. Pictured above the right monitor is a desk clamp monitor mount, which bolts to the back of your screen. For the monitors that don't have wall mounting points, the monitor stand in the middle is a great way to add more space for keyboard storage and give height to the screen.

8.Coffee pod drawers.

Are you a coffee pod fan!? Do you regularly drink nespresso or tassimo?? Other brands are available! Well I actually got supremely fed up with having boxes of pods in the cupboard next to the coffee machine. So I invested £20 to buy a draw made for my coffee pods and after a little WD40, it became the best purchase for my kitchen in a long time!

9.Toilet brush and cleaner caddy.

I have to say I am a big fan of the homeware brand Joseph Joseph. Yes it's overpriced in some areas but some of their ideas are actually kind of genius! I HATE having a toilet cleaner sat next to a toilet, don't ask me why it's a weird quirk about me! However, I came across this little gem in Dunelm and I was sold.

10.Wall mounting your TV.

I talk alot about the tech and TVs in Less Vanilla Please but actually as you probably wall mounting your TV actually creates alot of space! Especially when all the cables in your need can be neatly hidden away. It removes the need for a TV cabinet or means you can downsize your cabinet.

I hope some of these ideas have been helpful for you. It's a bit of a jumble of ideas, but I'll have more of these types of posts to come that are a little more focussed!

If you feel inspired by any of these I would LOVE to know, the best I will repost on our instagram too!
